Meet Laurie

The very first time Laurie Turenne reached the Boston Marathon, she ran there. Now the interesting thing is that she wasn’t even running the race. She was going to HopkintonĀ to support her friend and running buddy, Ilene (who is also on our team). Laurie had parked her car about 6 miles away and decided to run to the starting line and by doing so, she had run right into the next chapter of her life as a marathoner.

Just a few years before, she had never thought of running. Her daughter, a track athlete in school, had discovered runDisney events and since the whole family were huge Disney fans, Laurie and her daughter decided to sign up for the half marathon. In training for that event in 2014, she discovered she loved running.

That first Boston Marathon experience was in 2015. When she got to the starting line, she was overwhelmed with the energy and excitement of the day. It cemented in her a definitive goal: she wanted to run a full marathon.

The very next year, she ran her first Boston Marathon as part of the Goodwill team bringing her full circle to that faithful starting line. Her thoughts on the experience: “Running has taught me that if you dream and believe that you can get there, you will. The journey can be long but if you really immerse yourself in it, the experience holds so much value and the gifts are endless.”

Laurie joins our team this year along with her running buddy Ilene. She believes the connection with a running partner has been critical for her success. Together, they give each other motivation, accountability and emotional support. And she loves that they have the chance to have 3-4 hour conversations with each other on longer runs.
