Challenge yourself to a better night's sleep!

Day 4
Create a positive sleep environment

Your bedroom should be your sanctuary. A place of peace and tranquility where stress melts away and you drift off to sleep at your leisure. If your room more closely resembles Grand Central Station instead with kids and pets and noise, it's time to re-evaluate your environment.

Send the kids back to their own bed, kick the pets to the floor... and the noise?

Noises at levels as low as 40 decibels can keep us awake. That means a faucet drip, your neighbor's stereo, a car horn or your partner's snoring can all affect how you sleep.

Day Four Challenge: Block unwanted noise by going old-school with ear plugs, or by creating "white noise" with a steady rhythm to relax your mind. If you have a noise machine handy, by all means use it. If not, break rule #3 No Electronics, and download a free white noise app for your smart phone. You can choose from a variety of soothing sounds including rain, waves, or even just "white noise." Experiment until you find a sound that blocks out what you need it to but is still peaceful enough to allow you to sleep. Just be sure to flip your phone over so that the lit screen doesn't inadvertently keep you awake. Don't worry, you'll still be able to hear your sound of choice just fine!
