Response to the Newsletter question: What happened when you introduced your newborn to your firstborn?
"18-month-old Caden was still sleeping when we arrived home from the birthing center with Amelia. She was so fresh, only 5 hours old! He walked into the living room where I was sitting on the couch holding his sister. He was so crabby and he wanted nothing to do with me or the baby! He went with his daddy to take a bath, and I cried to my sister that it was just as I
feared- he didn't want a new baby and he felt replaced. Since he was so young, I wasn't sure how to prepare him beforehand.
When Caden came out of the bath, he was in a great mood. He came back in the living room, and it was as if nothing had changed for him. He asked me "What is it?" and I told him it was his sister Amelia, and that was it! He seemed to understand very well, and never seemed the least bit jealous. It was a beautiful moment, and luckily my husband got it all on tape.
